George Labadie “George Labadie has painted all his life. Trained at Los Angeles prestigious Chouinard Art Institute and elsewhere, his first passion was watercolor. But for much of his life, he worked as an art director for several advertising agencies in the Bay area of San Francisco and Los Angeles. Not until he retired in 1981 could he start his life as a serious artist.
Quickly becoming one of our finest transparent watercolorists, he became a teacher, lecturer and demonstrator as well as a signature member of the American Watercolor Society and the National Watercolor Society. Additionally, he is a founder of the Valley Watercolor Society. Articles on his work have been featured in publications including American Artist Magazine and The Artist’s Magazine. His work has been published in Splash I and II as well as Exploring Transparent Watercolor, Watercolor Magic, Painting With the White of Your Paper, and others.
Although he has exhibited in shows nationally and is the recipient of over thirty-five prizes, medals and awards, as well as being listed in Who’s Who, it is perhaps his greatest gift that will be remembered most: the generous sharing of his remarkable talents with students. George Labadie is one of those rare individuals who can encourage, motivate and express the intensity of the need for determination, dedication, and discipline in art as in life.
His former students wish to thank him for his devotion and friendship, and VIVA thanks him for gracing our walls with his inspired body of work.”
